Get the coach's inside on Twitter

BOB STARKEY (11-9-09):
In case you are not aware, I am twittering about our program and much more. You can often find out about what's going on with our program by following me on twitter than you can through any other media outlet. Bill Martin, our SID, will often get me information to "tweet" before he even releases it. One of the things we will do this year is actually tweet before, during and after our games. I will give you some insight into what is going on behind the scenes before the game. Find out about Coach Chancellor's pre-game talk. Any injury or line-up updates? You will find them following me on twitter before any place else. Half-time adjustments will be tweeted as well as post game thoughts. We are working hard to find a way to create even greater interest in our program though as many social media outlets as possible. In fact, tomorrow we will unviel a facebook page entirely dedicated to Lady Tiger Basketball. Until, please feel free to follow me on twitter at:

Great Fun at our Tip-Off Party

BOB STARKEY (11-9-09):

Last night we gave our fans a "sneak peak" of our Lady Tiger team by allowing them to view practice. We have a nice two hour workout and the team responded with great effort. The practice was opened to and sponsored by The Fast Break Club with a special invite to season ticket holders. We are very fortunate to have some amazing fans that have made a great difference in our program -- more than they can imagine!

Honored to be captain

Media_http1bpblogspot_naoxc
NICCI KELLY (11-9-09):
I remember when the coaches called me over after practice one day and asked me, "How would you like to be co-captain of the team?" I smiled and thought what I couldn't get out of my mouth, "I would love too!"

I am truly humbled and honored to be one of this year's team captains for the upcoming basketball season. It is truly an exciting and responsible role to have. As a senior, I am reminded to "Win" everyday and give everything you have for that day, that moment, that minute, because you won't get it back. Being a Lady Tiger means so much and to share my senior year with my fellow teammates is a treasure I will hold for a lifetime. How much better would it be to add on to that treasure and reach levels together that we cannot do as individuals? It's as if we are set out to reach the "promised land" and only by faith and through the power of God will we reach it. I thank God for this commissioning to lead. One of the best things I have learned about being a captain is that leadership is not about positionship but its about personhood. For me, being a captain is not so much about dictating on the basketball court, but loving and interacting in the very livelihood of my teammates and being there for them in all circumstances. Yes, leadership is required on the court, but majority of the time everyone is accountable to be a leader on the court by communicating and doing what their role requires of them. However, I have already encountered many instances this year when my teammates needed more than direction on the basketball court, but encouragement and prayer for the loss of family members, dealing with injuries, or even help with homework and classes. It's amazing how now even as I deal with my own injury and watch my teammates practice, they are there for me in return to encourage and pray for me. I am truly ecstatic about our journey this year; my prayer is that we take each day by faith and "Win" the Lady Tiger Way!

ALLISON HIGHTOWER (11-8-09):
Hello Lady Tiger fans! Of course you may all know that is my last year. Being a senior on this team is something that I will always cherish, because I've learned so much throughout my career -- but i can say that i still have a lot to learn. So far I think that this off-season has been better than all the rest. The team and I have been working very hard improving everyday. We have also been having a great time with all the activities we have been involved in. Now it is finally time to start the season. As I head into my senior year I want to make sure that this is my best year. See you at the PMAC! GEAUX TIGERS!!

PARDS: Past and Present

Media_http1bpblogspot_qshde
BOB STARKEY (11-6-09):

What a great time last night with the kids, parents and directors of PARDS in Denham Springs! I very much enjoyed myself for a lot of reasons. First and foremost it brought back great memories of a special Lady Tiger -- Katrina Hibbert. We first started our relationship with PARDS because Katrina had played at Denham Springs High School and it was an annual event in those days to take Katrina and the Lady Tigers there to spend some time with the kids of PARDS. We also had some surprise guest last night. Delia Taylor, another Lady Tiger alumni who resides in the Denham Springs area came by with her husband and daughter. She was kind enough to take some time at the end and talk to our team. It is invaluable to me that our current players hear from those who paid a price and sacrificed for us to have an elite program now. We were also visited by Tasmin Mitchell's grandmother. Tasmin of course was also a standout at DSHS and you can tell his smile and personality has been handed down from his grandmother.

Lady Tigers working hard on their GPA Program

Media_http1bpblogspot_fggnh
You've no doubt noticed that your Lady Tigers have been out in the community a great deal and especially involved with young kids in schools. It all be design and part of a program that Lady Tigers have started called GPA -- which stands for Goals, Perseverance and Achievement. They are joined in partnership with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

"One of the important things about being a collegiate basketball program is the way you can effect young people and communities beyond the basketball court," said Van Chancellor. "Giving back has always been a priority for Lady Tiger Basketball and we are proud to continue that legacy."

A Great Evening With PARDS in Denham Springs

ALI LAUGHLIN (9-6-09):
Last night I was asked to attend the PARDS clinic and put my new found photography skills to work. As the “official” team photographer for the night, I was able to witness some of our players at their best and worst (in Katherine Graham’s case). Each of our six players that attended were assigned to a station to teach the kids some fundamentals of the game. Destini Hughes had ball handling while Allison Hightower, Adrienne Webb, Jasmine Nelson, Taylor Booze, and Katherine Graham had shooting stations. Katherine decided she wanted to challenge her kids to a game of Knockout and in the process was herself knocked out in the second round!! It was quite entertaining to watch the kids delight, and surprise, that they had put out one of our Lady Tigers! Allison also got into the spirit and helped one little boy dunk since he just could not get the ball in the hoop, even with her wonderful teaching skills! Even Coach Starkey and Coach Travis got in the action by signing autographs and visiting with the HUGE group of kids that attended. Overall the night was a huge success with no child leaving without wanting to come to a Lady Tigers game! And as if that wasn’t enough I was allowed to drive the famed Van Wagon!!! After my van experience my day was complete, even if it was just around the corner!
