Southeaster Middle School "PRIDE"

Media_http4bpblogspot_dbfhk
BOB STARKEY (10-27-09):

I had the honor today to join Allison Hightower and Temeka Johnson as we visited Southeast Middle School here in Baton Rouge. Both Ally and Meek represented well and did a great job of going through the school and visiting with several groups. Southeast Middle is part of our GPA Program for women's basketball at LSU. It is something that we are very proud to be a part of in terms of community service. When we first got to the school, we could tell that everyone was excited to see our players. It was "Spirit Week" and everyone, including the teachers were wearing crazy looking socks.

The key word at Southeast is "Pride" so our players talked about the components of Pride:
Perseverance
Respect
Intelligence
Discipline
Enthusiasm

We were very impressed with the administration and the teachers as well -- they obviously care a great deal about their students.

SWAYZE & ISDS 1102

Media_http2bpblogspot_xzbip
SWAYZE BLACK (10-27-09):
One of my fall session classes, ISDS 1102, is probably my favorite class. ISDS (Information Systems and Decision Sciences) is a computer class that teaches about mobile computing in business. I enjoy learning all the things computers are capable of doing. While it is obvious I like to work with computers, that is only part of the reason I like this class. The fact that it only meets once a week, on Mondays, is the icing to the cake. I mean you couldn't help but to love that!

Katherine Graham Visits Woodlawn Elementary

Media_http2bpblogspot_czdfh
KATHERINE GRAHAM (10-27-09):

With a day off from practice, I had the opportunity to visit "my" school. Our women's basketball team has a "school adoption program" where school adopt us and then we go visit with the students. We talk about things like education, attitude and hard work. My school is Woodlawn Elementary and they were incredible. Of course it helped that Principal Susan Kornuta is a season ticket holder and a huge Lady Tiger hoops fan! She has already prepared the students for my visit. It was a great afternoon and I can't wait to go back!

Lady Tigers to be Televised 15 Times in 2009-2010

SPORTS INFORMATION (9-27-09):
Fifteen LSU women’s basketball games during the 2009-10 season will be carried live on regional or national television, including a school-record 12 Southeastern Conference regular season contests, as the league television schedule has been set.

The Lady Tigers will be featured on the ESPN Family of Networks three times, Fox Sports Net (FSN) three times, Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) three times, Cox Sports Television (CST) five times and the SEC Network once.

The 15 televised regular-season games represent the third-highest total in school history, trailing only the 2005-06 and 2004-05 Final Four seasons with 17 and 15 games, respectively. Twelve of LSU’s 16 regular season conference tilts feature live television broadcasts, which represents the most in school history.

KINESIOLOGY 3800

Media_http2bpblogspot_yzfgs
TIA EASON (10-27-09):
Hey Lady Tiger Fans! I just wanted to talk to you about one of my favorite classes this semester. My favorite class is Kinesiology 3800. We have a lot of debates in this class that's why I like it. It's a very interactive class and we really don't do a lot of in class assignments or homework so I love it. We have had debates on subjects such as should student-athletes get paid. Also, do student-athletes get pampered and treated more than they should? I like to get involved in the debates of that nature because my peers are always attacking the athletes in the class. During one discussion I had to get my point across that athletes deserve everything that we earn because they really don't have a clue how hard we work on and off the court.

Until next time -- Geaux Tigers!

Hanging with Celebrities at LSU

Media_http1bpblogspot_islpj
LASONDRA BARRETT (10-25-09):

LSU Football is not only a great atmosphere for Tiger Fans, but celebrities have enjoyed the electric and thrilling environment in Death Valley. Each time celebrities come they take a tour around the field to view the fans, football team warming up, and The Golden Band from Tigerland. Also, they seem to always stop by the Lady Tigers section, to meet and take pics with us. In the past few football games we have been privileged to meet Shaquille O'Neal, Matthew Mcconaughey, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Tia Mowry. This shows how special LSU is and how everyone, even celebrities, want be apart of the experience!!

Signing Autographs at Tiger One Village

Media_http1bpblogspot_dfirh
KATHERINE GRAHAM (10-24-09):

What a beautiful day in Baton Rouge today! We had an early morning practice which we like on Saturdays to give us the rest of the day to enjoy. We took an hour today to sign some autographs for our fans at Tiger One Village which is located outside the PMAC and has a ton of booths, food court and in a little bit a live concert! It's really amazing all the other stuff that goes on here during a football game.

SEC MEDIA DAYS AND A DASH FOR THE PLANE

Media_http4bpblogspot_bccox
ALLISON HIGHTOWER (10-23-09):
So my trip to Birmingham for SEC media day with Coach Chancellor was pretty good (minus the flying). We talked to a lot of media from different states and also people like ESPN, CST, and Fox Sports net just to name a few. Everything went by pretty quick, we left the airport around 7:45 am and got their at 9, then we started media interviews at 10 and finished at noon. We could barley even eat the delicious meal they had for all the people there because we had to make a dash to the airport to get on the plane before the bad weather moved into Baton Rouge. Let me tell you, I was extremely happy when we landed safely just barely before the weather had arrived!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Temeka Johnson Honors John Hawie

Media_http3bpblogspot_lfatk
TEMEKA JOHNSON (10-23-09):

Today I got to do something very special -- honor someone who really cares and has made a difference in my life and that of the Lady Tiger program. John Hawie has helped our program raise money (including a lot of his own) to help us do so many things like create an amazing basketball complex with a locker room, video theater, and player's lounge. Recently he endowed a scholarship in Coach Gunter's name and that really meant something special to me. But it is so much more than the money -- he genuinely cares about us as players and young people. He also has made a difference in my HOPE Foundation with support so today I surprised him before practice with a WNBA basketball autographed by the Phoenix Mercury! It is just a small way to say thanks to someone very deserving. Judy Southard stopped by to give her thanks to John as well and I enjoyed visiting with her as well.

A Visit from Gray Elementary

Media_http1bpblogspot_yelnr
COACH CHANCELLOR (10-23-09):

We had a wonderful day at LSU today. Besides having a good practice this afternoon, I got to spend the morning with some enthusiastic young people from Gray Elementary. This is becoming a yearly tradition where they visit our campus and meet with them in the PMAC to talk to them and take them through a few basketball drills. What a great group of kids! They were full of energy and very polite -- hope to see them again at a Lady Tiger game!
