TAILGATING THE LADY TIGER WAY

COURTNEY JONES (9-18-09):

Food, Fun, and Family is what I think about when tailgating at Coach's home. The entire LSU staff and players including managers gather in one location playing wild and crazy games. The best thing I love about it is the food. Coach Chancellor's wife makes the greatest Red Velvet cakes, no wonder Coach has been able to stay so happy all these years!

LEARNING TO PLAY THE PERIMETER

Media_http4bpblogspot_eevdm
ADRIENNE WEBB (9-18-09):

During four player work-outs, one of the main things perimeter players have learned about is making the right read off of screens to create scoring opportunities for ourselves and the person setting the screen. We have to be patient and see how the defender is playing us and make a hard cut off the screener to get ourselves open; and if the screener’s defender helps off on the cutter, then the person screening is left open. Executing this properly will help improve our game.

PICTIONARY

Media_http4bpblogspot_fvwba
TAYLOR BOOZE (9-12-09):
Every so often we get together as a team and have a game day at Coach Chancellor's house. Pictionary is a game that everyone enjoys. The things our teammates come up with to draw can be pretty comical. Trying to guess the answer isn't always as easy as it should be. It can get pretty heated at times just because we are all so competitive -- especially when the coaches join in and "try" to win. But I think we all really enjoy the quality team bonding time we get from it. Its always nice to be around teammates, coaches and staff. We always have a good time while always doing it "The Lady Tiger Way!"

TAILGATING AND THE LEGEND OF MRS. C'S RED VELVET CAKE

Media_http2bpblogspot_ezepz
ERICA WILLIAMS (9-12-09):
Tailgating at Coach's house, one word, FOOD!!! Honestly I always look forward to tailgating at coach's house. We have some of the best food and I think we all look forward to Mrs. Chancellor's red velvet cake. Mmmm! I can just taste it now! I don't think there is ever any of that cake left once we leave
; so if you do get the opportunity to come out and tailgate go for the desert first.

Although the food is some thing that we all look forward to, but also being with my teammates and coaches plays a big role. We're one huge family and the times at coach's house is pretty good bonding time. Coach puts together all these games and things get pretty competitive in that house. We learn more about each other each time and we become even closer. I truly enjoy the time that we spend together tailgating and I look forward to each time. To me there is no such thing as a team if you can't get along as a family, and tailgating really brings the family side of us out.

THE ANNIVERSARY OF HURRICANE KATRINA

Media_http4bpblogspot_oytzs
JASMINE NELSON (9-11-09):

Today is the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina which has had a profound effect on my family. Watching it on TV and hearing people talk about it sometimes makes me weak and I think hard about what my family and I went through. I just look at it as a setback that I overcame and it makes me appreciate everything I have in life.

It makes me love and cherish my mother and everyone around me because without them, I wouldn't be in the position I am in now. Sometimes I look at things being difficult and I want to give up because I feel I have nothing left but I've learned there's always a way to get over that 50 foot wall if you P.U.S.H. -- Pray Until Something Happens.

COACH STARKEY: Our Sports Information Director wrote a tremendous piece for LSUSports.Net. Click on the link if you missed it -- it's well worth the read:

FOOTWORK, QUICKNESS AND AGILITY

Media_http3bpblogspot_htlfk
TRAVIS MAYS (9-10-09):
We do a lot of unique things in our conditioning program at LSU. Conditioning is never easy but we make sure that we are doing different things to keep it fresh for our players. We also work hard to make sure that our conditioning is basketball specific. I especially like Mondays because we are in the PMAC working on footwork, quickness and agility.

NEW PRACTICE FACILITY TOUR FOR THE STAFF

Media_http4bpblogspot_fgwvt
BOB STARKEY (9-5-09):
What a great day today! Associate AD Eddie Nunez gave us a tour and update of our new practice facility. It was absolutely amazing. We are blessed to have someone like Eddie in charge of this project. He played for Billy Donovan at Florida and understands what players and coaches need in a practice facility. Eddie toured some of the top facilities in the country and made sure we had the best of the best. We are slated to be in the facility by mid-October with it being full functional and complete by early December. I'll check back in later and give you some great details about all that going into it -- but it was definitely exciting to see the progress today!

TEAM PRAYER

Media_http2bpblogspot_bxyfo
ANDREA KELLY (9-1-09):
One of the things I enjoy about our team is that we pray as a team. Before every game, before every meal or team function and after every workout whether it is practice or conditioning. We have a team of individuals from so many different places but we come together as one when we are Lady Tigers!

THE MILE RUN

Media_http4bpblogspot_evogd
KATHERINE GRAHAM (8-26-09):
As per The Lady Tiger Way we hit the track bright and early this morning for the mile run! We all have target times to make and and we all made them! We won't have to run the mile again until the last day of conditioning and those target times are not as easy -- trust me on that!

But I was proud of our team for pushing through it -- great way to start off the season!

CHAMPS BACK TO SCHOOL BASH

Media_http2bpblogspot_hedrk
COURTNEY JONES (8-24-09):

Each year on the Sunday before the first day of school our Shaquille O'Neal CHAMPS department puts on a "Back-to-School Bash" for the entire athletic department. There's food and games and it's always a lot of fun!

I never think about it much because it's just so natural, but all the sports, coaches and athletes get along so well at LSU. We always pull for each other. I think things like the Bash help to start things off on the right track.
One thing we didn't quite expect was Coach Chancellor joining us on the volleyball court!
