FIRST TEAM MEETING

VAN CHANCELLOR (8-24-09):
There's nothing like the start of the school year. All these years of coaching and still get that exciting feeling when we meet with our team for the first time.

We kept it short and sweet today and just went over a few guidelines. For me, it's always simple. Conduct yourself in The Lady Tiger Way! Make sure you are on time...treat all people with respect...no matter what it is you are doing, do it as well as you possibly can all the time. What has made my job so easy is that The Lady Tiger Way has been established a long time ago -- by my friend, the late Sue Gunter.

We also passed out our team notebooks that are such an important part of our program. We utilize them a great deal and they make a difference in our team. We spoke of academics and set a few goals there as well.

I loved the attitude of our team at the meeting -- I think they are as excited as I am and that's a great sign!

WELCOME!

ALLISON HIGHTOWER (8-23-09):

The Lady Tiger Way! It's been hammered into me since I arrived as a freshman four years ago. That's right -- hard to believe but I'm finally starting my senior year. The other day I was in the training room and talking to Micki (Collins) and I said, "I can't believe my senior year is here!"

The Lady Tiger Way means a lot of things to me. It's just not something that you get from what the coaches teach. I got most of it handed down from the upperclassman that I played with the past three years. Now it's up to me to make sure I teach the Lady Tiger Way to our team.

The one thing that Coach Starkey always talks to us about is "legacy" -- what are we leaving to the next team of players to wear an LSU uniform? How are we carrying on the tradition that our alumni has built?

The coaching staff always has Lady Tiger alumni speak to us when they come in town. Temeka Johnson is someone who I have became great friends with and who has passed on a lot of knowledge to me about how we play the game at LSU.

What I'm told is that this blog will be about our program -- every aspect! That our team, staff, alumni and even our fans will help contribute to it. It sounds like a pretty cool project so "jump on the Van Wagon" and follow the our team -- The Lady Tiger Way!
