BREC Coaching Clinic

COACH STARKEY (11-13-09):

One of the great things that has happened over the past few years is out joint relationship with BREC. One of the things I've discovered is the massive amount of programs that BREC sponsors and the tremendous commitment on behalf of their staff to create an environment of excellence in all areas. This summer we did a huge clinic for BREC at the Baton Rouge Sports Academy which was good for BREC but was also a wonderful opportunity for our team to be involved in a community program. Last night our coaching staff put on a clinic for the youth coaches in the BREC league and it was a wonderful evening with some very dedicated people that volunteer their time to work with young people. BREC gets it and we are proud to be a "friend' in their mission.

A Great Day at Brookstown Elementary

ERICA WILLIAMS (11-12-09):

I really enjoyed spending time and speaking to first the fifth grade students at Brookstown Elementary. I received a lot of love while I was there. The students were really into it and made me feel special. I talked to them about the importance of education and working hard at whatever it is they decide to do. Great experience!! Oh did I mention -- I was the first player to ride shotgun in the Van Wagon!! Be jealous!!!!!

Van on the Bus

VAN CHANCELLOR (11-11-09):

Well I can imagine there were a lot of LSU students that were surprised this morning when they jumped on the bus and saw their women's basketball coach hanging out with them -- passing out snacks, giving away t-shirts and talking Lady Tiger Basketball. Our marketing genius Tom Harlukowicz signed me up to be a guest host on Tiger Trails which is our student transit system. And as has been the case with everything else this fall, Tom nailed it. I had a great time meeting and talking to the students. Going into my third year at LSU there is nothing that impressed me more than the spirit of this student body. LSU is a very special place and is so because of our students.

We are tomorrow what we are today

Media_http1bpblogspot_csryc
BOB STARKEY (11-10-09):
I thought I'd share an email I sent our team last night --

Lady Tigers:

I just posted a great quote on twitter and it made me think about us. Here’s the quote:

"How am I going to live today in order to create the tomorrow I'm committed to?"— Tony Robbins

It could be paraphrased a variety of ways:

"How am I going to practice today in order to be tomorrow the player I’m committed to be?”

Or…

“How are we going to work today in order to be the team we are committed to be in March.”

Comes back to what? WIN TODAY

Great Fun at our Tip-Off Party

Media_http4bpblogspot_cjtdd
BOB STARKEY (11-9-09):

Last night we gave our fans a "sneak peak" of our Lady Tiger team by allowing them to view practice. We have a nice two hour workout and the team responded with great effort. The practice was opened to and sponsored by The Fast Break Club with a special invite to season ticket holders. We are very fortunate to have some amazing fans that have made a great difference in our program -- more than they can imagine!

Doing the Autograph Thing

JASMINE NELSON (11-4-09):
I realize that I haven't been at LSU long -- I'm barely starting on my fifth month as a Lady Tiger -- but I've signed about a thousand autographs already! People really love our team and it is so evident every time we show up somewhere. Each place has long lines with people wanting our signatures on posters, shirts, basketballs and anything else they can find. I'm not complaining though -- it's an awesome feeling. Last night at Woodlawn Middle School we signed autographs for over an hour. The people there were so nice -- it was an enjoyable evening. Another thing that was kind of cool is that I got interview by one of the students for their school newspaper!

Things I Love About The Lady Tiger Way #1

Media_http2bpblogspot_gieed
BOB STARKEY (11-03-09):
The title of this blog is The Lady Tiger Way. That concept is about a culture that was started during Coach Gunter's tenure and continues to this day under Coach Chancellor. I'm often asked what is The Lady Tiger Way and it is easy to see in its parts but difficult to simply define. It's a combination of always doing the right thing for the right reason but it also involves in doing more than is normally required. From time to time I'll list an example. For instance, this morning at 6 AM Coach Mays and myself brought the perimeter players in for some extra shooting. Andrea Kelly has had a foot injury the past week and been out of commission working out the crutches pretty good. Low and behold guess who comes in a 6 AM on her crutches to support her perimeter teammates? That's right -- Nicci Kelly! I never even thought about her coming since she couldn't dress out but that's THE LADY TIGER WAY!

Mike the Tiger - Our Live Mascot

Media_http3bpblogspot_lfnip
COURTNEY JONES (11-2-09):

The many wonders of LSU -- The name itself says a lot. The one thing that caught my attention was the live tiger we have on our campus. I mean other schools have dogs for mascots or birds, But we have a WILD tiger on our hands -- Mike the Tiger! I mean whose idea was this? I believe that it adds flavor to our campus and community. I helps bring people from all over to see what the roar is all about. Sometimes when we have 6am workouts on the track or in the PMAC we hear him roar. It’s a frightening feeling because we don’t know if he's out of his cage or just hungry! The team and I always talk about what we would do if he were to ever escape. Majority of us said run but what human can out run a Tiger? Then there’s the option of playing dead, but where would that leave us? I would probably be too afraid to even sit still that long.

Our Little Helper For The Day

Media_http2bpblogspot_ffujj
VAN CHANCELLOR (11-1-09):
I always get excited about Mall Ball because I love getting out and talking to the LSU fans. One of the most enjoyable things about coming to Louisiana State University is finding out the great passion everyone has to everything from football to gumbo -- and of course, for Lady Tiger Basketball! Today though we got an extra surpise with a new "assistant." Tiffany Creel heads out tickets for women's basketball at LSU and she has an incredible work ethic and a great personality. She makes a difference in our program. Our fans know her by her first name because she cares about them. Well, today she introduced the Lady Tiger fans to her daughter Ava and Ava stole the show. She is just as cute as she can be and we all enjoyed her!
