ANYTHING TO GET OUT OF CONDITIONING

Media_http2bpblogspot_cfhoh
LaSONDRA BARRETT (9-25-09):
The Lady Tiger Way just doesn't include academics, workouts, practice, and weights. TEAM bonding is an important aspect of our organization because it gives us a chance to interact with our teammates off the court and helps create chemistry that we can carry onto the court.

Allison Hightower and Nicci Kelly proposed a deal with Coach Starkey that we could go and complete 13 Gates at a local Haunted House and if we completed it as a TEAM, then we would be excused from the next 6 a.m. conditioning workout. Allison and Nicci rallied our team together and we all decide to go and finish with the help of each other. Some of my teammates and myself included was extremely terrified even before we started. Meanwhile, other teammates were not as scared as we were. Starting off, we were put in an unsturdy elevator that had no light and some scary creatures. Each gate offered a different obstacle in which we had to overcome. Our obstacles included graveyards, a witch's house, a butcher's store, things we had to crawl under, things we had to run through, scary creatures popping out of doors and windows, replications from movies, ex) Saw V, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Pirates of the Carribean, hot, cold, rainy, and foggy weather, just to name a few.

Each person's body was soaking with sweat from all the running, screamming, and grabbing each other. Being a TEAM was the only reason we finished the 13 gates. It didnt matter if someone grabbed you so tight you couldn't breathe because something just popped out the ceiling or if someone picked you up and carried you back into the entrance because you got last minute jitters. Whatever it was, our TEAM was there to lend a hand. We completed the scariest, darkest, most gruesome 13 gates of our life, but the best part was finishing through that last gate, cheering and giving each other hugs and high fives because we knew we just accomplished something worthwhile.

VICTORY AT LAST!

Media_http3bpblogspot_dlqac
KENYA LARKIN-LANDERS (9-19-09):
Every so often, we gather at Coach Chancellor's home and when we do we usually end up in some friendly competition. We've played Pictionary, Family Feud, and Quiz Show so far this year. We break into teams and the coaching staff is usually on the same team -- but we've had a very unsuccessful run -- UNTIL TODAY! We were victorious in Pictionary and then also won again in Family Feud which should have gave us the overall title until someone came up with the bright idea of the 1st place team should battle the 2nd place team for THE championship. Didn't matter -- Coaches won! I've got to say that Travis (Mays) was really on his game today and guided us to victory. Each time we get together, there are some gag gifts for the champions and I don't mind saying that we wore our championship hats with great pride (while the players were hatin' on us!)

LET'S PLAY THE FEUD!

Media_http1bpblogspot_bjljf
SWAYZE BLACK (9-19-09):
Being with the team at Coach Chancellor's house is always fun. We have the chance to eat, play games and just interact with one another -- a great way for the team to bond. One of the games we played, which I would say is the second best thing to eating, was Family Feud. We break up into several teams for this competition. The last time we played Family Feud the coaches ended up winning. I just can't get over the fact that they put my team (The Soldiers) out on a question about NBA players. Their answer was a guy that played way before our time which I think we could all agree was a disadvantage for our team ;-). Although the outcome was not what the team expected, we still had a great time. I would put in a request to play that game every time we go to Coach Chancellor's.

BOWLING - THE LADY TIGER WAY!

Media_http2bpblogspot_upcfm
ALLISON HIGHTOWER (9-18-09):
Hello Tiger fans! I hope everybody is doing well.

How many of you tiger fans love bowling? Well let me tell you, I love bowling!! When I was little I used to want to be a professional bowler, but obviously I was better in basketball! Bowling is something that our whole team really competes in -- we all think we're the best bowlers alive, but we all know that’s not the case!

Well except me, everybody knows I can bowl! As a matter of fact I think I made the top 100 best bowler’s in Baton Rouge (not really) but I like to think that way. When we go to the bowling alley my teammates always try to find a way to throw me off of my game, they just cheat! But I still love them...I understand. So if you see the bowling pictures clearly I was hurt and I was a little off on my game, but that happens very rarely. LOL -- until next time GEAUX TIGERS!!!!

TAILGATING THE LADY TIGER WAY

COURTNEY JONES (9-18-09):

Food, Fun, and Family is what I think about when tailgating at Coach's home. The entire LSU staff and players including managers gather in one location playing wild and crazy games. The best thing I love about it is the food. Coach Chancellor's wife makes the greatest Red Velvet cakes, no wonder Coach has been able to stay so happy all these years!

PICTIONARY

Media_http4bpblogspot_fvwba
TAYLOR BOOZE (9-12-09):
Every so often we get together as a team and have a game day at Coach Chancellor's house. Pictionary is a game that everyone enjoys. The things our teammates come up with to draw can be pretty comical. Trying to guess the answer isn't always as easy as it should be. It can get pretty heated at times just because we are all so competitive -- especially when the coaches join in and "try" to win. But I think we all really enjoy the quality team bonding time we get from it. Its always nice to be around teammates, coaches and staff. We always have a good time while always doing it "The Lady Tiger Way!"

TAILGATING AND THE LEGEND OF MRS. C'S RED VELVET CAKE

Media_http2bpblogspot_ezepz
ERICA WILLIAMS (9-12-09):
Tailgating at Coach's house, one word, FOOD!!! Honestly I always look forward to tailgating at coach's house. We have some of the best food and I think we all look forward to Mrs. Chancellor's red velvet cake. Mmmm! I can just taste it now! I don't think there is ever any of that cake left once we leave
; so if you do get the opportunity to come out and tailgate go for the desert first.

Although the food is some thing that we all look forward to, but also being with my teammates and coaches plays a big role. We're one huge family and the times at coach's house is pretty good bonding time. Coach puts together all these games and things get pretty competitive in that house. We learn more about each other each time and we become even closer. I truly enjoy the time that we spend together tailgating and I look forward to each time. To me there is no such thing as a team if you can't get along as a family, and tailgating really brings the family side of us out.

CHAMPS BACK TO SCHOOL BASH

Media_http2bpblogspot_hedrk
COURTNEY JONES (8-24-09):

Each year on the Sunday before the first day of school our Shaquille O'Neal CHAMPS department puts on a "Back-to-School Bash" for the entire athletic department. There's food and games and it's always a lot of fun!

I never think about it much because it's just so natural, but all the sports, coaches and athletes get along so well at LSU. We always pull for each other. I think things like the Bash help to start things off on the right track.
One thing we didn't quite expect was Coach Chancellor joining us on the volleyball court!

FIRST TEAM MEETING

Media_http1bpblogspot_rghba
VAN CHANCELLOR (8-24-09):
There's nothing like the start of the school year. All these years of coaching and still get that exciting feeling when we meet with our team for the first time.

We kept it short and sweet today and just went over a few guidelines. For me, it's always simple. Conduct yourself in The Lady Tiger Way! Make sure you are on time...treat all people with respect...no matter what it is you are doing, do it as well as you possibly can all the time. What has made my job so easy is that The Lady Tiger Way has been established a long time ago -- by my friend, the late Sue Gunter.

We also passed out our team notebooks that are such an important part of our program. We utilize them a great deal and they make a difference in our team. We spoke of academics and set a few goals there as well.

I loved the attitude of our team at the meeting -- I think they are as excited as I am and that's a great sign!
