SWAYZE & ISDS 1102

SWAYZE BLACK (10-27-09):
One of my fall session classes, ISDS 1102, is probably my favorite class. ISDS (Information Systems and Decision Sciences) is a computer class that teaches about mobile computing in business. I enjoy learning all the things computers are capable of doing. While it is obvious I like to work with computers, that is only part of the reason I like this class. The fact that it only meets once a week, on Mondays, is the icing to the cake. I mean you couldn't help but to love that!

Katherine Graham Visits Woodlawn Elementary

Media_http2bpblogspot_czdfh
KATHERINE GRAHAM (10-27-09):

With a day off from practice, I had the opportunity to visit "my" school. Our women's basketball team has a "school adoption program" where school adopt us and then we go visit with the students. We talk about things like education, attitude and hard work. My school is Woodlawn Elementary and they were incredible. Of course it helped that Principal Susan Kornuta is a season ticket holder and a huge Lady Tiger hoops fan! She has already prepared the students for my visit. It was a great afternoon and I can't wait to go back!

KINESIOLOGY 3800

Media_http2bpblogspot_yzfgs
TIA EASON (10-27-09):
Hey Lady Tiger Fans! I just wanted to talk to you about one of my favorite classes this semester. My favorite class is Kinesiology 3800. We have a lot of debates in this class that's why I like it. It's a very interactive class and we really don't do a lot of in class assignments or homework so I love it. We have had debates on subjects such as should student-athletes get paid. Also, do student-athletes get pampered and treated more than they should? I like to get involved in the debates of that nature because my peers are always attacking the athletes in the class. During one discussion I had to get my point across that athletes deserve everything that we earn because they really don't have a clue how hard we work on and off the court.

Until next time -- Geaux Tigers!

Hanging with Celebrities at LSU

Media_http1bpblogspot_islpj
LASONDRA BARRETT (10-25-09):

LSU Football is not only a great atmosphere for Tiger Fans, but celebrities have enjoyed the electric and thrilling environment in Death Valley. Each time celebrities come they take a tour around the field to view the fans, football team warming up, and The Golden Band from Tigerland. Also, they seem to always stop by the Lady Tigers section, to meet and take pics with us. In the past few football games we have been privileged to meet Shaquille O'Neal, Matthew Mcconaughey, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Tia Mowry. This shows how special LSU is and how everyone, even celebrities, want be apart of the experience!!

Signing Autographs at Tiger One Village

Media_http1bpblogspot_dfirh
KATHERINE GRAHAM (10-24-09):

What a beautiful day in Baton Rouge today! We had an early morning practice which we like on Saturdays to give us the rest of the day to enjoy. We took an hour today to sign some autographs for our fans at Tiger One Village which is located outside the PMAC and has a ton of booths, food court and in a little bit a live concert! It's really amazing all the other stuff that goes on here during a football game.

SEC MEDIA DAYS AND A DASH FOR THE PLANE

Media_http4bpblogspot_bccox
ALLISON HIGHTOWER (10-23-09):
So my trip to Birmingham for SEC media day with Coach Chancellor was pretty good (minus the flying). We talked to a lot of media from different states and also people like ESPN, CST, and Fox Sports net just to name a few. Everything went by pretty quick, we left the airport around 7:45 am and got their at 9, then we started media interviews at 10 and finished at noon. We could barley even eat the delicious meal they had for all the people there because we had to make a dash to the airport to get on the plane before the bad weather moved into Baton Rouge. Let me tell you, I was extremely happy when we landed safely just barely before the weather had arrived!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Good Practices!

Media_http3bpblogspot_amajj
DESTINI HUGHES (10-21-09):

The practices have been really intense. The coaches are definitely making sure they hold us accountable in achieving our team goals in every aspect of the game. Our team is constantly improving in different areas, but we still have a long way to go. Practices are more demanding this year because we expect to go a lot farther than we did last year, and our coaching staff is doing an excellent job in making sure we get there. Tomorrow we have a day off and we are ready for one but we will be back at work on Friday!

OUR TEAM GOALS

Media_http2bpblogspot_ybaso
ANDREA KELLY (10-21-09):
Last week the team got together in the locker room to establish our team goals for this upcoming year. Our mission was to come up with goals that were process oriented, goals that we can hold each other accountable for each and every day, instead of goals that were result oriented. As a team we came up with the following five goals:

CONCENTRATION
Focus
Fight fatigue
Details – the little things

MENTAL TOUGHNESS
Discipline
NBA (Next Best Action)

STAYING TOGETHER
Through the good and the bad
Unity/One Name
Respect each other

FINISH
At the end of game…at the end of practice
Effort
Communication

CONSISTENCY
Practice…free throws…shooting
Offense & Defense
Effort
Communication
Rebounding

Each and everyone of us contributed to these goals in one way or another and likewise, we will hold each other accountable towards them. I'm excited for the journey and the joy that will come along with it, if as a team we can live out what we talked about!

BIRTHDAY WITH MY TEAMMATES

Media_http4bpblogspot_mqoxj
COURTNEY JONES (10-19-09):
This past weekend was very exhausting, but at the same time fun. Beside the two-a-day practice held on Saturday, it was my 20th Birthday. What more could I ask for? I got to spend four incredible hours with my coaches going over drills and learning about our defense -- but that wasn’t the best part of MY day! Later that night I got to spend the evening laughing and joking with my teammates. We all decided to eat dinner at our local Outback Steakhouse and catch a movie.

At dinner we got a chance to relax and talk about things that were on our mind. We talked about a variety of things such as our favorite TV shows to our jean sizes. You could tell how empty our stomachs were by the way we ate because when our food finally arrived no one said anything. Then the waitress came out with a scoop of ice cream and candle while my teammates sang the Happy Birthday song. I was a bit embarrassed by their singing but I enjoyed myself. The movies were extremely packed that night. It was hard trying to find seats to watch the action-thriller “Law Abiding Citizen.” This film was very interesting. I believe this movie had everyone in suspense.

I really want to thank all of my teammates for spending their evening with me. They really helped make it an enjoyable and amazing one. If I could I would turn 20 all over again.

The Kind of Lady Tiger Alumni I Want To Be

Media_http1bpblogspot_faicv
KATHERINE GRAHAM (10-18-09):

Our team has had a great weekend. It's the first weekend of practice, we hung out together at the volleyball game, and celebrated Courtney Jones birthday as an entire team last night. But maybe the best part of going to Temeka's WNBA Celebration Party on Friday night. Meek means a lot to our team. We always have a lot of alumni stopping in to watching us practice or play. Coach Starkey always has them talk to us and it's a great way to learn about the legacy they left. But nobody has been more involved with us than Meek. She's always around. And when she's not she will call, text or email one of us to check on us. Even at the celebration she spoke directly to our team. She spoke from her heart about how much it meant to be a Lady Tiger and that we need to know that now to help us enjoy the experience even more. She started crying as she spoke and we all got teared up. She's the kind of Lady Tiger I want to be after I graduate -- one that continues to come back and give to those who were the Purple and Gold -- Meek has shown us that this is The Lady Tiger Way!
