JONI CRENSHAW: This Saturday was a great day to be a part of the Lady Tiger Basketball program.  I started the morning by going with our team to visit sick children at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.  It was very refreshing to see what an impact our team had on the patients there.  I also think it made our players realize how blessed they are to be in good health and have a sound mind.  I believe we all walked away from the hospital with a new sense of purpose and gratefulness.

My next stop was to Lady Tiger Depot to be a judge for Ultimate Fan Day.  Every year they have an Ultimate Fan Contest where Tiger fans come dressed in their Tiger Best to show their school spirit and support for the athletic program.  I had a blast watching these Tiger Fans express their creativity and loyalty to the university.  The contestants made it really hard on the judging panel because each fan showed their spirit in a different way.  In the end Erin Schafer, a 23 year old graduate student at LSU was chosen as the Lady Tiger Depot Ultimate Fan.  She dresses up in a toga uniform for every home football game and in the students section she is known as “The Sparkly Girl”.  So be on the lookout for her at home games this year!!

COACH STARKEY: Last night was our Fast Break Club Summer Cookout and was a tremendous success.  Gotta start with a big shout out to Chico Moore.  I've known Chico for 25 years -- since my first arrival to LSU -- and he has and continues to be one of the absolute best friends of LSU Athletics.  From our staff, Angela Jones worked with Chico and put the event together and I think if you ask anyone and was an incredible evening.  I know Coach Chancellor has already blogged about the night but there was one photo that was special to me.  It shows Coach Chancellor sitting with Darlene Foster, John Hawie and Howard Jones.  These were Fast Break Club members that have been with us the longest that attended last night.

I also wanted to talk a little bit about our trainer, Micki Collins.  She is one of the most special people I have come across in athletics.  She is tireless worker and compassionate person who cares deeply about everyone in our program -- and those who aren't in our program.  And now she's a mom!  It's pretty amazing to watch her and her husband Ken (who is of course also a big Lady Tiger supporter) raise Granger.  They are amazing parents.  Yet somehow Micki doesn't miss a beat at work and actually has allowed our families to be a part of hers.  Micki brought Ken and Grange along last night and Granger was kind enough to entertain us for a bit in the yard playing some football (hey, it is LSU).

Friends and family -- The Lady Tiger Way!

VAN CHANCELLOR: Last night we had our annual Fast Break Club Summer Cookout and, as it is every year, it was a really special event.  This year it was even more special because our dear friend Chico Moore hosted it at his home.  And anybody that knows Chico knows he only knows one way to go -- ALL OUT!  Chico is someone who has been a tremendous friend not just to Lady Tiger Basketball but all of LSU Athletics and we can't begin to thank him enough for the wonderful hospitaltiy last night.  And then there was the great turnout of our Fast Break Club membership.  Darlene Foster was there and as I understand it was an original member of the very first Fast Break Club.  It is really nice that John Hawie now lives in Baton Rouge and can actually attend some of our events.  I was so impressed with his knowledge of recruiting and women's college basketball. Of course we have the most loyal Tiger fan in our corner - Howard Jones.  One of my dear friends from Mississippi Stan Douglas was there and told us about a trip to Chicago where he got to spend some time with Sylvia Fowles and Marie Ferdinand after a Chicago-LA game. Sue Bernie is another loyal supporter that follows the game intensly -- she knows more about the WNBA than any fan I've met.  Sallye Stewart was there, as she always is, though we did miss her husband Wayne last night who was hard at work. And two of my favorite suppoters are Wayne & Diane Leader -- they have been such loyal supporters...travelling to road games, visiting us at practice, opening their home to us at Christmas. it was my first opportunity to meet Carl Hampton who has some crazy work hours that often keep him away from some of our events.  It was great to hear him and Travis talk about their love for motorcycles.  Diane Simon was there as well which made it seem like practice as she is a regular visitor in the PMAC during basketball season.  And last, but certainly not least, Kim Crane and Kelly Presley of Lady Tiger Depot who get involved in our program in a variety of ways and have had such a major impact in our success.

I also have to thank our administration.  Our Athletic Directir Joe Alleva and his lovely wife Annie joined us as well as Miriam Segar, our new Senior Women's Administrator.

Thanks again to our host Chico Moore, the wonderful folks at Drusilla's for the incredible meal, and to our entire Fast Break Club family.

ATLANTA -- The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in cooperation with State Farm, announced the All-Region nominees for the 2010 State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. VAN CHANCELLOR (3-16-10):
As our team prepares for our 13th consecutive NCAA tournament, I can't help but stop and thank all of our great fans. The people that love and support the Lady Tiger Basketball team are what makes our program so very special. I was reminded of that last night at our Fast Break Club's Selection Monday Spectacular. There was a huge crowd and you can geniunely see how much that care about our players. And then I got reminded today. While leaving the Athletic Administration Building I ran into a family (pictured above) coming to see us about their daughters becoming managers. They were so excited to be a part of Lady Tiger Basketball -- and so am I!

As had become a tradition for the past 13 years, the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team opened their NCAA selection party to our Fast Break Club. The 13th Annual Selection Monday Spectacular was held in the Lawton Room to a capactiy crowd. The evening always starts with food and camaraderie in which our team and FBC members get another chance to hang out and be with each other. We then move to the theater to watch the ESPN Selection Show live on the big screen and together we all learned we were a 7th seed and playing Hartford in Durham, North Carolina. The event is then followed by a press conference with Coach Chancellor and our players and set up by our SID Bill Martin. It is certainly one of the most exciting times of the year and we are thankful that so many of our supporters joined us.

VAN CHANCELLOR (12-10-09):
What a wonderful night last night! It was time for our annual Fast Break Club Hall of Fame Christmas Party. This was an event that has been a tradition for the Lady Tiger basketball program before I arrived and one that I've thoroughly enjoyed the past three years. We had a wonderful night of food and fun and I was honored to host the event at my house. I am so appreciative of my wife Betty, my daughter Renee, and our Director of Basketball Operations Brittany Carvalhido for putting the evening together. This is a very special group of individuals that have formed a powerful team of support. They are a big reason for our growth and success and it was great to spend an evening with them in the Christmas spirit!

BOB STARKEY (11-9-09):

Last night we gave our fans a "sneak peak" of our Lady Tiger team by allowing them to view practice. We have a nice two hour workout and the team responded with great effort. The practice was opened to and sponsored by The Fast Break Club with a special invite to season ticket holders. We are very fortunate to have some amazing fans that have made a great difference in our program -- more than they can imagine!

BOB STARKEY (10-18-09):

There are far too many reasons for me to say why I love our Fast Break Club and not enough time to jot down all the reasons they make a difference in our program but last Friday night was just one more event to show why they are a special group. They came out in full force on short notice, on a Friday night, to congratulate Temeka Johnson on her WNBA Championship. Of course that also speaks to Meek and her ability to get people to love and support her as well. But make no mistake about it, the love and support of our Fast Break Club is another aspect of THE LADY TIGER WAY!
