Guest Speaker in players' class

KATHERINE GRAHAM

On Friday, February 19, we had a guess speaker in my Kinesiology Sports Marketing class. This special individual topic was about social networking and being able to target different people and all the things the program he is affiliated with uses to reach a mass array of fans. The individual was, as Jenni Peters calls him, "Bobby" Starkey. That's right Coach Starkey came and talked to our class about the programs attempt to reach coaches, players, and fans on a personal level and make them more interested in the Lady Tiger program. I personally got a first hand explanation as to why he is so addicted to twitter and blogging and realize that it is not just for social networking, but also a way to create an interest. Overall Coach Starkey did an excellent job of informing LSU students, and if coaching doesn't work out he can always fall back on teaching as a profession. Until next time Lady Tiger fans!

SWAYZE BLACK
After being given a day off following a big win against Vanderbilt, you would think none of the team wants to be around any of the coaches. However Tia, Boogie, Erica and I were honored with the chance to have Coach Starkey as a guest speaker in our Kinesiology 3801 class. Coach Starkey came in and informed our class of the many different options we have in the media world as far as advertising and marketing in sports. We were taught different ways to keep people entertained and even how to draw big audiences. Coach Starkey has done a great job of keeping people updated through his twitter, facebook, and our lady tiger blog just to name a few. He has websites available for players and coaches of all sports to entertain, inform, and also motivate. I'm pretty sure many of you have already been keeping up with a couple of these websites and following Coach Starkey, but for those of you that haven't I would strongly advise that you do. This would be an easy way to see what it is like in the day of a Lady Tiger and learn other things that are very inspiring and that may be helpful to you. Hope you all enjoy tiger fans!

"Professor" Chancellor Talks WNBA Finances to LSU Class

Media_http4bpblogspot_hezqd
JENNI PETERS - LSU INSTRUCTOR (11-19-09):
Coach Van Chancellor did a fabulous job explaining the money matters in the WNBA to the Sports Administration: Financial Issues class today. A teacher can communicate relevant facts and figures. But when you can get that information from the source, a former 4-time WNBA championship coach…WOW. I wish we all our majors could have been there to hear it. He filled 3 blackboards with inside scoop on WBNA revenues and expenses. I left it up on the board to impress all the classes that followed us.

Visit With LSU Sports Marketing Class

BOB STARKEY (11-18-09):

I had a great experience today speaking to a LSU Sports Marketing class. The class is taught by Jenni Peters who is a tremendous Lady Tiger fan and who herself has left a legacy in our program from the great marketing ideas she incorporated while she was our marketing director. Ironically, Jenni asked me to speak about social media so I shared with the class what our program had been doing through our blogs, twitter and facebook. I ended the class by asking for some thoughts and ideas and actually got a great idea from one of the students to utilize with the LSU sororities and we are going to use it!

Lady Tigers working hard on their GPA Program

Media_http1bpblogspot_fggnh
You've no doubt noticed that your Lady Tigers have been out in the community a great deal and especially involved with young kids in schools. It all be design and part of a program that Lady Tigers have started called GPA -- which stands for Goals, Perseverance and Achievement. They are joined in partnership with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

"One of the important things about being a collegiate basketball program is the way you can effect young people and communities beyond the basketball court," said Van Chancellor. "Giving back has always been a priority for Lady Tiger Basketball and we are proud to continue that legacy."

SWAYZE & ISDS 1102

SWAYZE BLACK (10-27-09):
One of my fall session classes, ISDS 1102, is probably my favorite class. ISDS (Information Systems and Decision Sciences) is a computer class that teaches about mobile computing in business. I enjoy learning all the things computers are capable of doing. While it is obvious I like to work with computers, that is only part of the reason I like this class. The fact that it only meets once a week, on Mondays, is the icing to the cake. I mean you couldn't help but to love that!

KINESIOLOGY 3800

TIA EASON (10-27-09):
Hey Lady Tiger Fans! I just wanted to talk to you about one of my favorite classes this semester. My favorite class is Kinesiology 3800. We have a lot of debates in this class that's why I like it. It's a very interactive class and we really don't do a lot of in class assignments or homework so I love it. We have had debates on subjects such as should student-athletes get paid. Also, do student-athletes get pampered and treated more than they should? I like to get involved in the debates of that nature because my peers are always attacking the athletes in the class. During one discussion I had to get my point across that athletes deserve everything that we earn because they really don't have a clue how hard we work on and off the court.

Until next time -- Geaux Tigers!

JOHN HAWIE ENDOWS SCHOLARSHIP IN THE NAME OF COACH SUE GUNTER

Media_http3bpblogspot_oredl
COACH STARKEY (10-12-09):
One of my favorite people in the world is John Hawie. He not only is a support of LSU athletics but has been a tremendous supporter of Lady Tiger Basketball. In fact, John has become someone that has grown to love the game of women's basketball on all levels and I always enjoy talking about our game with him. John is someone who has been supporting our efforts for a long time -- before it was fashionable but recently he took it to an entirely greater level. It was announced at the half-time of the LSU-Florida football game that John would be endowing a scholarship in the name of Coach Sue Gunter as part of the Tiger Athletic Foundation's Foundation of Champions. The idea of endowing the scholarship in Coach Gunter's name came from John and his love and respect for her and her accomplishments. The financial support is truly important but his understanding of our program's legacy is priceless -- THANKS JOHN!!!
