6 AMs helping to prepare the Lady Tigers

Our team continues to work hard.  We have demanded more from them this year than in recent years and we believe they are asking more of themselves.  Three to four times a week we start the day off at 6 AM for conditioning, footwork and agility training.  We may be on the court, the indoor football facility, the fieldhouse and even outside.  The majority of the workouts are conducted by Melissa Moore but on Friday's the coaching staff gets involved.  Our goal is to make sure that we are giving are absolute best each day -- WIN TODAY!

This morning we did a great deal of footwork stuff including a bounds exercise into cone agility work.  This was following with some various slides and sprints from cones forming a V.  Both of these sets of drills we got from the men's staff at Duke.  There was also a lot defensive slides and stance work -- this is where we develop the base of our defense that has been an anchor of our program for so many years.

It's all about hard work, proper execution, and toughness -- that's how we WIN TODAY!

Tia reports from the weight room

TIA EASON (4-29-10):
Hey Lady Tiger Fans, as you know Championships are won in the off-season. We have been working really hard since the season came to an end. Our Spring weightlifting workouts have been going really well. We have the best strength and conditioning coach and Coach (Melissa) Moore will always make sure she gets the absolute best out of us. We have been doing a lot of core work and power lifts to work on our explosiveness. We are really working hard to come back stronger next season. And for the perimeter players, a lot of us are lifting as much as the post players or even more. So post players I'm going to need you to step it up. Just kidding the post players are doing a great job. Overall the team is doing a great job.

WEIGHT ROOM IDOL

Media_http4bpblogspot_rdefy
MELISSA MOORE (10-12-09):
Today we held our first annual Weight Room Idol! After a grueling morning at the track, this competition allowed the team to have a lighthearted learning experience in the weight room. Players competed against each other in 3 rounds. In each round, players selected one technical exercise to "audition" in front of "Randy", "Paula", and "Simon". The judges were of course myself (as Simon) and my two assistants Kristina Hull (as Paula) and Matt Shadeed (as Randy). I couldn't keep up a British accent for long, but Kristina and Matt stayed in character the whole time!

Players were rated on technical merit only. The learning experience came from hearing the judges' critiques. Players had the opportunity to learn from each others mistakes and improve their technique in the following rounds. The competition exercises were: power cleans, hang cleans, push jerks, splits jerks, overhead squats, parallel back squats, front squats, step-ups, glute-ham raises, incline bench press, agility ladder drills, push-ups, and box jumps.

The competition came down to a 3-way tie between Allison Hightower, LaSondra (Boogie) Barrett, and Destini Hughes. After an elimination round on the agility ladder, Allison Hightower took home the honor of being named the first LSU Weight Room Idol! Congrats to Allison and to a great performance by the whole team!

MY LAST MILE RUN!

Media_http1bpblogspot_evacc
ALLSION HIGHTOWER (10-12-09):

Hello Lady Tiger fans!!

So today was a very exciting day, it was my last 6am mile run and conditioning!!!!! Let me tell you, I've been waiting 4 years for this day. Leading up to the run I was pretty nervous -- I had the bubble guts, but once Coach (Melissa) Moore said "go" it all went away. All I could hear was loud breathing and my thoughts of "I only have 3 more laps to go" (lol) But overall and Nicci and I were extremely excited to finish our last 6 AM conditioning.

Next up is finally getting to practice and reaching our goals, this is only the beginning of what i hope to be a great season.

Up And At 'Em

COACH STARKEY (10-12-09):

Bright and early this morning as our team prepares for our last 6 AM conditioning workout with Coach Moore. As is our annual tradition, we finish out our fall conditioning on the first Monday before practice starts. And, as another part of that tradition, we will closeout it out with a mile run. Each player has an individual target time that they must meet. We also run the mile on the very first day of conditioning. We have a target time there but it is more lenient -- just something to make sure they followed an off-season program. Today's mile times are very tough. The mile run as a conditioning has some benefit but not nearly as much as other areas that we utilize for conditioning. But the mile run is a great way to measure of our mental toughness. Can we dig down for 6 to 7 minutes and give it everything we have? Of course we can -- IT'S THE LADY TIGER WAY!

THE MILE RUN

Media_http4bpblogspot_evogd
KATHERINE GRAHAM (8-26-09):
As per The Lady Tiger Way we hit the track bright and early this morning for the mile run! We all have target times to make and and we all made them! We won't have to run the mile again until the last day of conditioning and those target times are not as easy -- trust me on that!

But I was proud of our team for pushing through it -- great way to start off the season!
